Coaching at OUGC
John Cook is a world reknowned player and coach who has been helping with the Oxford team for the past seven years. His expert knowledge of all aspects of the game have drastically improved each and every player who has represented Oxford over the last seven years. John's son, Mat, has now also become a vital asset for the team, and both coaches travel with us to the Varsity Match venue for the whole week, to ensure that everyone is comfortable with their game before the Match begins. The team works extremely hard throughout the year in training sessions each Wednesday at Heythrop Park.
This year, we are excited to make full use of John and Mat's new state of the art putting studio.
Every Wednesday, the team makes the short trip to The Oxford Golf Club to train with John and Mat. The sessions usually start with a discussion of the previous weekend's fixture, followed by 9 hole matches between the players. John and Mat will see each player individually to assess any concerns with technique. The team will finish with short game and pitching. As well as this, the team often goes to the local driving range at Binsey to practice on a Thursday or Friday night before the weekend matches.
